If you think the sort-of son of a god was killed and came back to life to "redeem" your "sins" and make sure that you'll go to a heaveny sort of a place for an infinite number of years after you die and rot, and that you'll see your dead grandparents and that beagle you had when you were a kid when you get there....yeah.

The weirdest thing is the mix of religious symbolism. There's a painting of Anubis preparing a body for the afterlife, placed right above a painting of Persephone going to Hades. Statues of Anubis and the crocodile god Sobek, crammed into the armor and uniforms of Roman soldiers. Totally bonkers.

Local legend says the catacombs were discovered in 1900 by a donkey falling in a hole.

Nearby in Alexandria, a giant pile of rubble stood until 1960, just taking up space. When the archeologists started digging, they found a whole Roman neighborhood - including an amphitheater, public baths and a couple of Roman villas.
