(17,505 posts)Which reminds me:
READ THIS BOOK! It's so good (and easy to read) and you will be up on the latest in Cosmology. (No cosmology, not cosmetology!)\

(18,219 posts)because it is hilarious in a sick way. Almost went with Awkward Moment, but that one was sick in a hilarious way.

(654 posts)the pick and choose bible thumpers are the best, treating their foundation document as though it were some sort of Chinese Take-Out Menu where one selects 2 from column A and 1 from Column B and disregards the rest....
I always like to toss this one at 'em when they're hating gays:
Just because I don't believe doesn't mean I didn't read their books, in fact one might argue because I did read their books that I'm no longer filled with belief.

(18,219 posts)That is such a great way to describe it. Hilarious.
(And I agree with you about reading the Bible. That was what did it for me---and I didn't even get half way through it before I gave up believing anything in it.)

(9,356 posts)In Alexandria, Egypt I saw women with their families, actually trying to wade/swim in the Mediterranean while fully covered (though usually not veiled). Somewhere I even have photos of that.
In the Red Sea town of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, I never saw any women try to swim. Saudi families rented big tents on the beach, so fully veiled/covered women could look at the sea, at least.
But as some wise-ass once said - why would you want to go to the beach in Saudi Arabia anyway? Along with all the other stupid rules, you can't even drink a beer.

(654 posts)Right, it's why I turned down a security job there way back in the 70s when I was just out of the US Army infantry looking for gainful employment....no beer, no women, nothing but sand and some guys who wanted you dead...
I said no and took the security option for South America....can't say in hindsight it was a hugely better option...although it did reveal to me what happens when 1% live in luxury without any real middle class...lots of pissed off people in the lower 99% looking to make a living any way possible including kidnapping and murder for hire....all nice religious nations as well.
