In response to another thread I suggested creating a new Group for Pastafarians in the Religions and Spiritualities supergroup.
I was wondering if 10 star members from A&A would be willing to support the creation of such a group.
Besides who doesn't love pasta and talking like a pirate!
If you are interested in supporting the creation of such a group please reply here and then it can be taken to Ask the Administrators!

the sauce is with you,
and when with cheese,
tasty be your dish, Spaghetti.
Holy Pasta, whole and sundry
fill our eager tummies,
now and when we are hungry.

(7,886 posts)Long since time we had one. There are ~15 groups in this area, 2 of them allow atheists, 1 of them is not openly hostile to atheists, and only one supports pastafarians. I can't imagine if someone wanted to start a mormon group, or a scientology group.

(18,312 posts)Something like
"this is a safe haven for Pastafarians and members of other non-traditional religions to come together and discuss issues ....' blah blah blah
Also, remember that groups can ***EXCLUDE** Participation from certain members. Make sure to put it in the mission statement 'DU'ers who associate themselves with or consider themselves to be allies of mainstream religions (including, but not limited to Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Wicca, etc) are respectfully asked to not post in this group, as there are already ELEVEN other groups for you to participate in...."
just a thought

That is a brilliant idea!
Though, I was thinking of phrasing it like a pirate:
This here be a safe haven for Pastafarians and der allies. All ye buccaneers who board dis here ship be free to discuss all things Pastafarian such as Pirates, pasta, beer volcanoes, colanders, and of course his noodliness the Flying Spaghetti Monster (and his consort the invisible Pink Unicorn).
Scaliwags who be allying themselves with mainstream religions against the Flying Spaghetti Monster, may his Parmesan ever be fresh, and those who support him are not welcome. If ye dare bring discord to our vessels we shall keelhaul (block) ye to Davy Jones Locker forever more.
All other corsairs who support us in our privateering are welcome to our rum and pasta.
-Da Capt'n
But I think I might be going overboard...
If you or anyone else have any suggestions for the new group I am all ears

(48,181 posts)The gluten-intolerant group of Pastafarian branches out to Pastafarian GFS, Gluten-Free Sect, which is similar to Pastafarian LFS, Lactose-Free Sect that avoids any type of cheese from cow milk on their pasta during or after the cooking process.
Although Pastafarian GFS worships the Flying Spaghetti Monster, as other sects of Pastafarian, its doctrine prohibits the use of wheat in pasta and meatballs. Instead, corn, rice, tapioca, potato and other non-gluten grains must be used as alternative to wheat.

(49,533 posts)but I too support creation of that group.
I think Pastafarianism serves a useful purpose in that it should remind everyone that someone out there thinks THEIR beliefs are nonsense/fake, too. Serves as a very important "check" when it comes to religious privilege and the role of religion in politics.
As we have seen on DU, many believers feel very threatened by its presence because it brings up important questions that were they to answer them, might just weaken their faith. So it's easier to attack and dismiss rather than actually have a dialog.

Not that i think Pastafarians are any less corre t in their belief than any other religion, but that seems to sum up their reaction.

Though, as much as I hate to say it, it is looking like we have been turned down. I am hoping I am wrong and it is just taking them time to get together, or to make the group, or something. I am just going to remain patient till the end of the week at which point I am going to assume we received a pocket veto.

Here is my suggestion for an SoP:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1230&pid=42697
When it comes to rules I suggest we plunder the rules from A&A =P
As for hosts, we need to decide on how many and who. I would like to suggest having 3 hosts, and since he started this whole thing nominate Yorktown as one of the hosts.
If anyone disagrees, has their own nominations or has a suggestion let me know.
Edit:
Breaking news! This just in! Suggested hosts:
