Anyway, these aren't leaders, they're atheists who entered the public eye.

Have we met before?

They could easily promote these people without resorting to stale memes about Dawkins, Harris and that "atheism needs netter leaders"

I'd much rather have Harris as the crazy guy i have to defend because a) i don't have to defend him b)i can disagree with points that i feel he is wrong on. C)no matter how bad people claim he is (which is usually lies about something he said a decade ago) i don't have to go as far as defending pedophilia, or anti-gay, anti-woman hate speech.

After reading the latest hate rag from francis about women being natures creatures that need preservation, harris is a breath of fresh air.

Note: this is in the Atheists and Agnostic safe haven.

I really like Greta and agree with so much of what she writes. Why she has to validate the "Dawkins is sexist, Harris is racist" meme garbage I don't understand. It also bothers me that every time we atheists want to reference something one of our "leaders" said, we have to always qualify it with a "I don't agree with them on everything, but...". The pope lovers never qualify a damn thing, and he's far more sexist and homophobic than anyone who's been labeled an atheist leader!

6. Re-write the sub headline to read:

"Atheism has great human beings, with widely varying points of view. And these eight are the tip of the iceberg."

Fixed it for the writer.

The word "leader" is inappropriate here because the definition of "leader" does not fit.

"1 The person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country."
"2 The principal player in a music group."
"3 British: A leading article or editorial in a newspaper."
"4 A short strip of nonfunctioning material at each end of a reel of film or recording tape for connection to the spool."

And why does "atheism" need leaders? Simple answer, it doesn't. At least it doesn't for me. I came to atheism all by myself, and only found out about the atheists who are writing about it and in the public eye after I was sure that there is no god.
