The comments were broadcast on Italian TV, and like many visionariesand nutcasesbefore him, his thoughts were not well-received. Via UPI:
The Rev. Gino Flaim said he understands pedophilia as an attempt by children to find affection.
He told Italys La7 television channel, Ive been to lots of schools, and I know children. Unfortunately there are children who seek affection because they dont receive it at home and I understand that some priests can give up. Pedophilia is a sin, and like all sins has to be accepted.
The priest wasunderstandablyless forgiving when asked about homosexuality, explaining that, unlike the rape of a child, consensual sex between two men is a disease.
Ah, the RCC and their "deeply held beliefs"...

ROME -- The Catholic Church in northern Italy's Trento region has sanctioned a priest who said pedophilia in the church was caused by children seeking the affection of priests.
The Trento archdioceses said in a statement it had removed the Rev. Gino Flaim from all pastoral work and forbidden him from preaching after an interview was aired on the La7 private network Tuesday evening.
In the comments, Flaim said he had worked in schools and understood children. "Unfortunately, there are children who seek out affection because they don't get any at home. And it can be that maybe they find some priests. And I understand this," he said.
On the other hand, he said he couldn't understand the "sickness" of homosexuality.
The archdiocese said it "fully disassociated itself" from Flaim's words.

(49,533 posts)"Sacked," to me, means you're fired. Your employment is terminated. You need a new job.
Somehow when the RCC "sacks" someone, they continue to be employed and protected by the Vatican. They're just put in a job that keeps them out of the media spotlight. Yet we are supposed to hail this as fixing their pedophilia problem.
Bernard Law, anyone?
