I borrowed Hello Cthulhu 10 years ago from an old friend who doesn't post here anymore and kept her as a tribute.

Every family get-together brings with it the inevitable pestering from parents and relatives: "Y U NO HAVE TEH BABIES?"

We have the onerous task of informing our families this xmas that there will be NO children coming from me and the missus...

This should go over well...

I just can't do it. I cannot in good faith bring another human into this messed up world when there are so many other humans in need - just.can't.do.it.

Plus, health issues for the Mrs...adds to the easy decision...

And... I like things as they are now. 2 kitties is all I need

...that Planned Parenthood does more than abortions.

I'm pretty old, so my Mom is really elderly. Every once in a while we talk about her not having any grandkids. She usually mentions that she would have loved to have them. At least as babies.

But unfortunately you can't give them back when they grow up. And she also usually mentions the large number of her elderly friends who are raising their grandkids. Because the parents are too lazy, drug-addled or just plain useless. So I think she's made her peace with the whole thing.

I loved this thing years ago that I think was in the New Yorker...

This couple had named the 2 children, a boy and a girl, that they had NOT had. They kept adding up how much they had saved by "not having little Billy and Suzan". "We saved a bundle not buying a crib for Billy and not enrolling little Suzan for horseback riding lessons."

It was hysterical.

It's even worse when you're a woman, it's like we're less than female if you don't want teh bebbies.

I never wanted a kid, all my life people told me I would change my mind but nope!

I know women who had kids they didn't want, it doesn't work out well for the kids or the parents.

My wife often wonders if there's something "wrong" with her because she doesn't want kids.

It's not as bad for us guys, mostly because society tends to tolerate a degree of nonconformity in men (hooray rugged individualism). However, a lot of people tend to assume that because I don't want kids I hate kids, and that's not even remotely the case.

I never wanted anything to do with baby dolls, or Barbies for that matter. I guess I was lucky, my mom never taught me that the greatest day of my life would be my wedding day or that having a kid would make me complete.

People always assume there's something wrong with us but it's becoming more common all the time.
