It's a great early exercise in critical thinking to realise that the story couldn't possibly be true (oops, spoiler warning!). Also that adults lie and are not always to be trusted. I think it's very educational, provided the belief doesn't last too long.

My mother tried to explain that he was just one of Santa's helpers but I didn't buy it. I'd been told I'd be seeing Santa and it was a total fake.

I credit that experience with my lifelong skepticism.

Someone at school told her. He said she was crushed. The other 2 still believe.

This guy says he got religious when "God spoke to me". If I told my shrink that, he would send me to the hospital and change my meds.
