Related: About this forumJust saw Ron Reagan's ad for Freedom From Religion on CNN
An ad recorded by Ron Reagan inviting viewers to join the Freedom From Religion Foundation is airing for the first time on the nation's most prominent news commentary shows.
"Morning Joe" and the "Rachel Maddow Show" on MSNBC are running the ad through March 12. The 30-second spot is also returning to CNN during the same time period.

I rarely watch cable news so I don't know how often it's been aired. It was a pleasant surprise!
Apparently the holy ones over at CBN are calling for a boycott of CNN and MSNBC for airing it.
And Ron's brother thinks their Dad is crying in heaven over it.

(18,312 posts)and he was only radical depending on who you ask.
Liberal Christians see Big J as being 100% on their side
Conservative Christians see Big J as being 100% on their side
who is right? It's all a matter of interpretation and neither one can claim to be any more right than the other.
Such is the conundrum of religion.
Such is why we think it is such a blight on humanity

(113,130 posts)The Catholics want to put their dogma against contraception and abortion into civil law. The Calvinists want the poor punished, just like Determinist Jebus intended, while the rich must not be subject to the law, same reason. I don't think I have to mention keeping Israel on the taxpayer tit beyond all reason, especially with their present government, but that's not purely religious.
The truth is that most religions have silly dogma they want to have the force of law, from banning fiddle playing on Sunday, to the Blue Laws, to the laws that threaten the lives of the female half of the population.
This is an important battle and isn't about whether or not an individual is a believer. It's about organized religion intruding into secular government. That wall is there for a very good reason.
Think.

(18,312 posts)We find the "battle with God" --, well firstly, it's not a "battle with God" but a "battle with the daily erosion of the already tenuous line that separates Church and State" and "a battle with the encroaching religious intrusion into every aspect of our lives regardless of our choices regarding belief", and we find those things to be pretty fucking important in our lives.
And just as a reminder, since I think you are unfamiliar with this group's purpose statement:
Statement of Purpose
A place where atheists and agnostics can engage in frank discussions about the effects of religion on politics, free of debate about the existence of a deity or deities.

(18,312 posts)I knew you weren't a regular here (not to sound snooty but you know what I mean) and people stumble in here (and religion) all the time unwittingly and then they're like OMG WTF LOL BBQ.
Don't be embarrassed. Take your shoes off, look around, stay a bit We don't bite. Well, not on THursdays at any rate.
Everyone is welcome here and we enjoy a good debate within the SOP of the group. Heavier theological discussions are more appropriate for the Religion group but some good stuff can be found here as well.

Stay safe, Ron. These are ugly days with more assailants of stupidity finding support in this expanding world of Trumpdumbnation.

(3,215 posts)If Ronny is crying in heaven. Does that mean you can be sad and therefore depressed in heaven? The whole point of Heaven is its the carrot at the end of the stick of your life. If you can be sad in heaven what's the point. That idea seems a lot more depressing than non-believer's saying there's no afterlife.

(50,747 posts)considering God seems have had some serious mood swings in the past (flood, plagues, killed his own son to save our souls, etc), there's no guarantee that his heaven is going to be all that great.
