http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2017/04/10/the-history-of-religion-from-magic-rocks-to-the-modern-day/For my part, I have had entirely too much of "People Who Claim to Speak for the People Who Claimed to Have Come From the Sky."
Since we have it on Good Authority that No One can understand either the Fewer Invisible Sky People or the People Who Claimed to Have Come From the Sky, but we are free to (required to?) quibble (or engage in armed conflict) about what is written about them.
But I understand, Growing Up, while inevitable, is hard and yet easily avoided or delayed.

(837 posts)thanks so much.
Grew up with a dad as a minister.
Decided at about 11 yo old it was all nonsense.
Engaged in vicious family fights over it for years, 'cause I was "just a kid," and how could I possibly know my mind?
Eventually got thrown out of house, over lack of belief in magic people in sky, and their appointed speakers.
Entirely happy, healthy, respected non-believer, 50 years later.
Go figure ....

(113,130 posts)My own take: It had been raining for many days and the people had been sheltering in a cave, unable to make fire to cook their food because everything was so wet. Og couldn't take it any longer, went to the front of the cave and shook his fist at the clouds and roared "STOP THAT FUCKING RAIN!"
The rain stopped and the first priest was born.
