because what Pig is doing is presenting a list of things needed. A list is singular even though its contents are plural. Had Pig said "The things you need...", then we've gone onto plural.

Having said that, I have to inform you that my major was mathematics.

...I would humbly suggest there is a missing colon, and a proper sentence would read:

"What you need is: critical thinking skills, the desire for knowledge, a dose of healthy skepticism, and a willingness to always question the answers."


Emphasis added because...REASONS! (a Borderlands 2 reference)

Sorry, I don't get the Borderlands reference (not much of a television(??) watcher.

Added for even fuller disclosure: I was kicked out of the Boy Scouts as a kid.
