Atheists and Agnostics are grounded in well reasoned facts.
Religion is based on unsubstantiated "closely held beliefs."
Atheists and Agnostics educate.
Religion inculcates.
They are not the same.

(1,884 posts)We continue to enjoy her entire catalogue.
Shooting rubber bands at the stars is a truly remarkable collection of works, and remains as my personal over-all favorite.
No doubt that it was the time of life for us, when we were so new, we couldn't even call ourselves green, lol.
My first psychedelic experience was on a golf course in Rice, Texas... Drove a tractor that day, omg, lol...
I was singing What I Am is What I Am in my head the entire time...
It's so great that she's still cranking out amazing musical works. It's an ongoing inspiration!

But atheism to me is more about seeing the world how it really is rather than how others tell me it is.

I agree, Atheism/Agnosticism is based in Science.
Nonetheless, I would prefer to see it in a Philosophy forum rather than a Religion/Spirituality forum.
I didn't start the forum, nor am I part of DU admin, so it is not my decision to make
That being said, Atheism/Agnosticism is most definitely not Religion, nor is it Spirituality.
I'd prefer it in almost any other forum other than it's current incarnation.

(11,500 posts)I wasn't commenting on where it should be....though I agree with you. I was commenting on that saying by Edie Brickell.
Religion is not so benign as he makes it sound.

(113,131 posts)but I'd prefer us in Science, since that's one of the main places our tribe hangs out.
Still, I don't care where they put us as long as we're there and I can find it. They can stuff us into "Offbeat" for all I care, we're a definite minority here.

Reason aides reason, it's what defines our party!
Thanks again Warpy.
I got to change my vote!
I adore reason, thank you for employing yours!

(24,828 posts)none of the religious leaders know if there is a god, heaven, hell, etc. They tell people they know but they don't. I also don't know. The difference between me and those who are religious is I am content to not know the answers to all the big existential questions. Those who are religious have such a need to know that they will go as far as paying other people who don't know the answers to answer those questions for them.

(1,884 posts)Religion obscures and deceives.
Reason reveals and informs.
Atheism is reason.
