I'm sorry to hear about this.

What on earth would you say that would provoke a personal attack like that?

Geeze.

I have a serous prejudice against woo.

Because woo maims and kills.

"Medical" woo, anti-GMO woo, anti-UFO woo, anti-fundy religion woo, etc.

Science has rules that scientists have to follow.
Woo spreaders don't even bother.

Either for possessing magical things like, oh, matches, or for failing to follow their party line, which can be like a religion to them.

I think I get it, and I've been there.

I love the little hidden away places that DU provides!

There's even a forum devoted to birders and the birds they see and food they feed to them!

and then I walk away, never to revisit the thread.

I figure I owe one sane post to anybody out there who is still educable.

It's funny to see it collect over 10 answers, none of which I bother reading.

5. I don't consider them "bean dip dumb," just misguided due to woo propaganda.

Back in the 1970's, I was very much a believer in this stuff, Bermuda Triangle, ancient astronauts, flying saucers, etc.

But as I got older, I found more and more books and videos that showed how fake all those things were.

So I learned to not be suckered by the woo spreaders.
Don't forget in 1980 and 1984 I voted for Reagan.
So as I learned more and more, I saw how fake they all were.

Now if you look here:

http://www.rightwingwatch.org/rww-blog-posts

You'll see many people (including many we slam with glee like Glenn Beck,) who are not dumb.

They are absolutely stupid.

but their absolute refusal to look at anything beyond ridiculous snake oil put out by (mostly) Rodale publications keeps them bean dip dumb.

It's really sad when they lock themselves into such a little intellectual room.

I worked in a health food store when I was living in a place with few possibilities for employment. I do know what I'm talking about here. I've seen it all. Really.

They're nice people, but they know what they know from very little and very narrow reading and assume they know it all. And that's what makes them bean dip dumb.

Me? I'm the village idiot, I admit it. However, I do read all sides of a question before I figure out whose bullshit is worth buying or if any of it is.
