Article on Midichlorians gets published
A number of so-called scientific journals have accepted a Star Wars-themed spoof paper. The manuscript is an absurd mess of factual errors, plagiarism and movie quotes. I know because I wrote it.

(2,647 posts)... how many articles from these "journals" have been
submitted to Congressional Committees as evidence for
nutty right-wing positions on various subjects. If I knew how,
I'd search the Congressional Record for entries from these
bogus publications.

(12,441 posts)In 1996, a physicist, Alan Sokal, submitted a paper to one of the leading progressive sociology journals. In it he argued that quantum gravity was a social construct. But it was all written in such dense prose that it was difficult to understand. He used lots of liberal buzzwords and the journal published it. Sokal, a leftist himself, used this to criticize journals like this for not being rigorous in peer review which left them open to being discredited.

(7,911 posts)It was an article "disproving" ESP. Granted, ESP is probably nonsense, but the experiment they described in the paper was even worse nonsense. So I guess even skeptics can be taken in by garbage.
