Flat-Earthers cite solar eclipse as proof why Earth must be flat.
http://www.rawstory.com/2017/08/shadows-dont-do-that-flat-earthers-offer-absurd-explanations-for-why-the-eclipse-proves-them-right/In a traditional globe model, Notopoulos continues, the size of the shadow that gets the full eclipse (otherwise known as the path of totality) is small much smaller than the size of the moon. Flat Earthers point out that this is seriously flawed if the globe theory was true, then the shadow should be much, much bigger.
Because Flat Earthers believe that the sun and the moon are equally-sized objects at equal distances away from the (flat) Earth, the apparent scientific inconsistencies in shadow size provide further that the Earth.
Let's see if I get this correctly:
The Flat-Earth-theory of the solar eclipse is based on Sun and Moon being equal size and equal distance to Earth. According to them, the shadow during the solar eclipse should be much bigger than what we measure. So, the prediction of THEIR theory is incorrect, which means that the OTHER theory must be wrong.
All those news stories telling you not to look at directly at the eclipse? an A.V. Club article on Flat Earth reactions to the eclipse reports. Those arent so you wont go blind by gazing directly into the sun, but so you wont see whats really going on in the sky this afternoon.

I watched the video on
http://www.avclub.com/article/seriously-how-are-flat-earthers-dealing-eclipse-th-259708
where a Flat-Earther explains what's wrong with "mainstream-astronomy".
I had a strong urge to scream at the monitor:
- "Repeat your shadowing-experiment with something small like a matchstick or your fingertip and you will see that you are wrong!"
- "The Moon sometimes looks red because of Rayleigh-scattering of photons!"

(1,215 posts)This suggests that they are spherical... Watching the eclipse through specially-filtered binoculars yesterday, I was struck by a sense of depth, an awareness of the moon's shape.
The flat-earther predictions are wrong, so they deflect. Of course.
I just love how they ALWAYS claim that anything they disagree with, anything that contradicts their (conspiracy) theory, is a vast conspiracy.
So the evidence of actual people who've suffered eye damage, and the testimony of ophthalmologists about how this damage occurred, is of no value to the flat earthers. Instead they label it "fake news."
As Galileo once scribbled in the margins of a book on geocentrism: "Idiot! Dunce! Eunuch!"

(7,886 posts)Wouldn't they crash into each other?
How do they explain lunar phases?
What did they see when the looked at the eclipse?

(16,471 posts)One theory says that solar-eclipses are not the Moon moving in front of the Sun. Instead it's "Some-planet-from-Hindu-mythology-whose-name-I-forgot" moving in front of the Sun.
Whatever question you ask them, they will always have an answer because they are not limited to answers that are verifiable or make sense. Science has a mechanism to discard explanations from time to time. Pseudoscience and religion do not.
Examples:
- No, they wouldn't crash into each other, stupid. Everybody knows that the Moon and the Sun obviously can just pass through each other. The Sun is just a ball of gas! Duh!
- Lunar Phases are obviously the result of a disc hanging right in front the Moon that regularly changes from opaque to transparent and back.
- They saw very clearly with their own, unprotected eyes that it wasn't the Moon who moved in front of the Sun. Instead, the Sun temporarily dimmed and then went back to shining.
