We had Tom's Midwest memorial service Sunday.
It was at Fermilab in Batavia. This is Boot Camp week for Quarknet. Tom was the heart and soul of Quarknet, and one of the originators of the program:

I am glad the program has grown so much and will continue without him. Physicists and physics teachers all over the world are benefitting from his inspiration and teaching.
There were many wonderful tributes. People came from all over the country, and my daughter is still receiving condolences from all over the world.
Tom didn't just help physics teachers. He would go out and plant trees with the grounds keepers. He had friendships with the workers of all types and knew everyone. He will be missed by people in his profession, and by a wide group of family and friends.
My daughter is trying to get an endowed scholarship in his name, so one physics teacher a year who might not be able to get funding can go to the summer program.
Of course, the Tom I knew was the loving father and husband to my daughter. He cared about people and about our world. It is a shame they only had five years together, and a marriage of only seventeen months. Life is not fair. But we know that anyway.
