Celebrating my dad's life tomorrow

He passed on Saturday in his sleep surrounded by his family. He was a week away from 86. He enjoyed a great life, so its hard to say we're grieving, although I will miss him dearly. I had the privilege of caring for him the past 5 years and the last couple of months he was mostly out of it, but he fought till the end. He died exactly how he wanted....at home. Hospice care made his journey easier, and I will forever be indebted to this great organization.

You have the consolation of knowing that you were there for him when he needed you and, undoubtedly, you eased his last days.
RIP.

and left peacefully. No doubt knowing the comfort and caring received was provided with love. It is such a privilege to care for our loved ones isn't it?
I promised my Mum that I would look after her after she passed (I worked in a funeral home at the time) and that seemed to comfort her.
I think it's wonderful how hospice makes passing easier. My health won't allow it but my dream is/was to be a hospice volunteer.
I truly understand your statement "... it's hard to say we're grieving, although I will miss him dearly"
May the "missing him dearly" provide you with memories and joy to take that pain away.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Please know I'm here for you, just an inbox message away.

my condolences.

For the first time since 2002, I am not an active care-giver. While that statement gives me a sense of liberty, it also reminds me of what I have endured....and what I have lost. I'm still kinda numb. Don't know what the future will hand me, but I'm definitely gonna make the best of what time I have left. I have got to dissolve my dad's estate, so that'll take a few months, and after that, we plan on spending some time in the Virgin Islands.....might even try to move there. Life will probably still be familiar, one foot in front of the other ya know. Just keep on keepin on. It's what I do.
