My cousin passed away in March 2020

Right before the Covid lockdown. His family couldn't have a celebration of life when he died, because of the lockdown, and by the time it was safe to gather, his widow and their kids didn't want to have a celebration. My surviving cousin has tried several times to get other family members together to remember his brother, but it hadn't worked out. He and his wife found a way for us to note his passing without gathering. They sent out memorial candles and a short eulogy. We all lit the candles today, my cousin's birthday, and will remember him as we wish. I thought it was a good idea. I know my surviving cousin and his wife wanted closure, and I hope this meaningful act will help them heal.

We were all very close growing up, but scattered apart as adults. When I was a kid, I thought we'd always be closer, but it didn't work out. I'm in touch with some but not all of my cousins and we're all glad for the family ties.
