Loners
Related: About this forumAnd this is one reason why I'm a happy loner.
I have a friend I've known since 1975. Been there for each other off and on.
Out of the blue on the phone tonight, she makes an impassioned (if not irked) plea about some stupid jacket I like to wear when it's cold. A tan L.L. Bean barn jacket I think. She dedicated five minutes to telling me how bad I look in this jacket, to ditch it. I mean it really bugs her.
Well, y'know what? I'm keeping it and I'm wearing it. It hasn't held me back when I do menial errands, etc.

(11,682 posts)It'll just roll on and you'll go on and be cool without her. Shitty thing for her to judge you about imo

(2,678 posts)I like to say concerning my looks in my 20s & 30s I would have cared. In my 40s I may have cared. At 60 I could give 2 shits what people think of my appearance. When at home Im in pjs & slippers. When out sweats and a T-shirt, sneakers, always with a ball cap. However when out for an event, like a banquet, etc. I do try and look my best. Three piece suit, shined black shoes and fedora hat. I do have some standards. 🤔😃

(652 posts)They are barn coat haters! I can't wear my 20 year old Lands End barn coat without a lot of negative comments. It is useful. I live in the country. Nothing can hurt it. It's 2 front pockets hold my Kindle, wallet, and anything else I need. I like not having to carry a purse. And it's lined with some horse blanket looking fabric, and is very warm.
So I just tell people to go piss up a rope. Find something important to yammer about. I am not a fashion model, nor do I play one on TV.

(25,483 posts)To ask when she started fashion school. Or I would have lead her on a long, wild goose chase through my entire closet, soliciting opinions on every conceivable thing from my socks belts, hats, scarves, ties, and all to my sexy underwear then politely say that "I hope we never had to have that conversation again! Unless, of course, she decided to change her opinions or keep them to herself."

(8,231 posts)and that it really doesn't suit you. She cares that her friend doesn't look like shit. ????? She's keeping it real.
You don't care about it and intend to keep the coat. She's said her piece about it so she should clam up about the coat going forward.
