(10,002 posts)He must have a James Joyce-like stream of consciousness gene. "I gotta go" is when he shifts into a higher verbal gear while following me to our front door.
He's smart and a great guy. Couldn't ask for better neighbors. We think alike politically. It's just sometimes he doesn't pick up on the social cues. Maybe on the spectrum a bit?
I got wore out tonight.

(10,002 posts)I did discover several months ago that if I have a beer or three under my belt, it's much more tolerable. I'll be prepared this time.

(25,483 posts)Don't owe anyone else a living. Are you choosing to make yourself sad? I know I have used the "tough it out" approach myself to endure unpleasant situations but I paid for it later. Time is your most precious commodity. You can kill it or spend it with people who appreciate you and fill you up or have the life sucked out of you by meaningless nonsense. Just get up and walk away. You don't owe anyone anything but yourself. Trust me, you'll experience true freedom when you do and the more times you do it the easier it will be the next time. You don't have to be in pain just to keep from being lonely. Stay encouraged.
