Loners
Related: About this forumNot sure i should even have to post this, but does anyone feel we have the leg up on
the 'self quarantine' thing?
i mean, i have literally 1000+ books, a couple 100 dvds, i live within 1 mile of a grocer, a few more of a walmart, scads of diy projects both minuscule and grand scale, a veg garden to put in, and DU to boot as this gets ugly?
i mean, this is what i'm bred for ...
ymmv,

(34,364 posts)but I choose to stay alone a lot of the time and I do not mind it.
I know what you mean. How anyone could not find enough to do during a long quarantine is beyond me.

(10,274 posts)But this isolation thing is a piece of cake for me.
It also helps that I knew I was going to be without a car from the beginning of January on. So I stocked up on stuff for months, so I wouldn't have to bother neighbors until I got a new car.
Ended up getting some serious health issues, so the car has been put on hold. And now I'm just hanging around inside the house because it's the safest and healthiest place to be.
The house has needed a good cleaning. I no longer have any excuses.

(10,274 posts)I can't even call it spring cleaning. It's called 'working against procrastination.'
The procrastination always wins. But I try.
Any excuse to stop cleaning is good enough for me. So now that there are no excuses left, I guess I'm cleaning. Sort of. In between reading, things to watch on TV, spending hours and hours on DU.
Now I found another Forum so I'll be on here even more.

(54,770 posts)be a major disruption for a reasonable time. I work primarily from home, and the virus gives me another excuse to avoid meetings.
So, short-term quarantine wouldnt hurt me. But there are some events Id miss. My lady friend, however, might not like being stuck with me if isolated from her kids/grandkids and lots of friends.
Worst thing would be knowing others are hurting financially from job loss, from being cooped up, and of course illness.

(25,483 posts)Not much different than what I usually do. I may forgo some meetings at agencies where I volunteer and not sign up for anything else for a while. But I've plenty to keep me busy. I rarely get cabin fever. ❤

(585 posts)if I don't want to. (And I didn't want to even before Covid.)
I've got cans and cans of Amy's organic soups from Amazon, & recently stocked up on frozen veggie burgers delivered from Whole Foods by PrimeNow.
I fast-walk on my electric treadmill while listening to my baroque/classical mp3s or watching videos either online or from my large collection. I've downloaded more books for my Kindle than I can possibly read in the years I've got left (probably not that many).
I'm ready for the Zombie Apocalypse. (Except I'm a pacifist so maybe not so much.)

(11,780 posts)Im not a total loner but staying home a couple weeks is fine by me. Id have to go to the store once in awhile Im not stocked up but could do it in the middle of night or something if necessary. I could order a few books online, go for a walk daily and Id be fine.

(9,199 posts)I have umpteen cable channels, Britbox, Acorn, Prime video, thousands of Audible books, Central Market and HEB to deliver my groceries, a large freezer, Amazon to deliver, and - Best of All - three Golden Retrievers!
God knows I am fortunate. I hope you are, too.

(2,011 posts)I do go out for various things like to the store, dog park, gym and an oldies fitness class a couple times a week. But staying home is always at the top of the list of favorite things to do. Every once in awhile I'll have a day where I have no obligations outside of the house and late in the day I'll realize 'omg, I never changed out of my pjs (sweats and t shirt)'!

(46,964 posts)I'm totally down for the hermit life. Checking in on loved ones electronically instead of visiting. Saving money on travel, commuting, and going out. I'm an excellent cook and have plenty of alcohol at home. And if I die alone without ever procreating, there are plenty of people in this world anyway.
