I am elderly & disabled, and in that high risk category to die from this coronavirus. I have been blessed the past couple of months to have groceries delivered to me by Wal-Mart. I shop and pay online; the store collects my items; and they are delivered to me by a delivery service (they use Door Dash).
However, when I went to place a delivery order online this morning, there was a notice that they are no longer doing delivery, due high in store demand. Nor are they are doing pick up, where you order & pay on line; they select your items; and bring them out to your car.
I was able to place a delivery order with Albertsons, to be delivered mid-week. Not surprisingly, Albertsons is more expensive than Wal-Mart for their merchandise.
If delivery stops being an option, I may have to pay someone to shop for my items, perhaps twice a month.

(25,107 posts)your profile shows you are in Albuquerque... why don't you post there in the New Mexico forum also to see if a local might want to help?
i have a buddy in albuquerque who may can help, but as i know you are in a large city, someone close to you might be best?
so post in NM forum, and if you don't have any luck, i'll set up contact info w/ you and my bud to see if the two of you are able to work out something
good luck

(2,014 posts)I'm in SoCal and on Next Door. In the last week in my area there have been many posting offers to help out people that can't get to stores, pharmacies etc on their own. Hopefully your neighbors will have something similar.

(2,014 posts)I guess I would be looking at the names of the people who do the offering to help. Since I get a daily digest of postings from Next Door, I see the names of people who post regularly. These are people in my neighborhood who I may also know or see around the area. I may have even interacted with them via exchanging surplus fruit, finding their lost dog, going to their garage sale, etc. So I would look for names that are at least familiar to me before handing over any money.
Next Door is not just people from anywhere posting, you are limited to seeing posts from specific areas right around your home. I don't know the actual distance but I'd say just a couple of miles around me. Of course that doesn't mean you don't have a scam artist living on the next block, so you have to use some common sense.
