Loners
Related: About this forumMerry Christmas Loners
It's a cold and windy night here. I'm snuggled up with my animals and having a cup of hot chocolate with rum.
My thoughts are with all my loner friends tonight. Some of us prefer the cozy solitude. Some of us would enjoy a friend or two for the Holidays. Some of us would like to moon the neighbors while screaming "Santa ain't real!" (Er, ok, that may just be me)
Whatever your circumstances this year, I wish you all peace and good health.
The Loner's Lounge will be open all night tonight and all day tomorrow. Drinks are free and I "borrowed" MIRT's hot tub for the day...
The password is "Go Away".
Cheers my friends!

I will be home alone tomorrow happily reading a book for my blood club meeting on Sunday.

Would it make a cloud?

(9,449 posts)Not sure I would want to do that experiment.
But how amazingly Zen 😎

(2,204 posts)I'm feeling blue about being jobless and about the pardons, but not about being alone. That was by choice.
I hope everyone is feeling safe and at peace.

But for now, cheers my dear!

(6,138 posts)I rent a condo with a crappy looking small front yard.
Even though it's not mine, I'm putting in the structures for a small garden that I'll plant with tons of bulbs, a terraced veggie bed, and stepping stone path. To make it more challenging, I'm trying to scavenge most of the building materials from empty lots and rocky fields.
I was absolutely in bliss today playing in the dirt.
I'm sick of Christmas music, ads, TV specials, shopping specials, etc. Nobody is giving me a new Lexus. Or diamonds from Kay jewelers.
Enjoy your evening and Christmas day, fellow loners! After tomorrow, it will only be about 290 days until it starts all over again.

(22,850 posts)Who knows when, exactly, Christ was really born.
As you know, the date is simply a holdover from the Pagan Winter Solstice festivities.
Jesus' purported life story (his greatness as an activist and philosopher notwithstanding), a retelling of the Osiris myth.
Biblical scholars themselves agree that December would've been a most unlikely date given the presence of shepherds at the time (suggesting Spring) or the "Star of Bethlehem" - almost certainly a Jupiter/Saturn conjunction whose closest occurrence, astronomers tell us, would have been in October, 7 BC.
In short, no one knows - not clergy, and certainly not televangelists.
So, yes: A Very Happy Festivus to you and yours too, dupagelib.
And a Happy New Year.

(1,979 posts)No tree, no guests. a quiet day tomorrow (as if we ever have quiet) with a foot of snow expected. We bought a 12 lbs turkey and spent time watching a chef's tutorial on how to debone a turkey in order to lay it flat, add a stuffing layer and roll it into a roast complete with twine. Mission accomplished. We are also delivering 2 ten week old Dachshunds to a family in the morning. I have to bathe them both -Mr. Frank and Mr. Beans- early and get them ready for their new home with kids! They have been living here for nearly 3 weeks awaiting their big Christmas debut. Beyond that, one more dog coming in -a veteran visitor- we are going to eat, drink, binge watch, and be merry.
Cheers DU folk. I honestly DO NOT know what I would do without your compassion, wisdom, smarts, and humor in these trying times. Let's get through this.
