If you are someone who loves being alone dont let other people tell you that youre weird as a result. Being comfortable enough to enjoy your own company isnt weird, its a wonderful thing. I recently came across an article written in Psychology Today that goes over how being alone isnt a bad thing and really highlights some of the bodies of research that show just how positive it can be for us. This article was/is titled The Badass Personalities of People Who Like Being Alone and it was written just a few years ago by Bella DePaulo.
People who are unafraid of being single were more extraverted than those who are afraid of being single. Perhaps this finding is consistent with research showing that single people, on average, have more friends than married people do, and do more to maintain relationships with friends, neighbors, siblings, and parents. But again, the research on the social ties of single people includes all single people, not just those who are unafraid of being single.
According to DePaulo, single people or those who prefer to be alone are more helpful, caring, connected and not selfish in any sense of the word.
For unknown numbers of people, being alone is not just a preference it is a craving, a need. Deprived of their time alone for too long, they begin to fantasize about it. Nothing feels quite right until their need for solitude is replenished.
Who are these people who like being alone? Stereotypically, they are the weirdos and the freaks, the scary loners planning shocking acts of violence. New thinking and fresh research upends those caricatures. We now have a better idea of the true personalities of people who like being alone, and they are, well, totally badass.

(6,088 posts)I've been looking for a part-time job and realize that my introversion is a barrier to technology use.
Nearly all of the jobs I'm seeing require me to be chained to my phone and a bunch of tech apps. I don't want to be available to anyone 24/7. I don't mind being somewhere when I need to, but don't want to be bound to a job with an electronic leash. I like for my mind to be able to wander, and to choose when I interact.
I think that makes me unemployable.
