(28,394 posts)(Not that it makes it true!) Also, the voting totals have not yet been certified in some states.
There were math errors in WI and (supposedly) MI is within 10,000 votes now? Hope that would trigger an automatic recount.
I am a teensy bit encouraged by the news about Jill Stein and plan to donate! Even if it is a longshot, I think it is worth a try to prevent 4 years of hell.
EL34x4
(2,003 posts)Trump wins by 10,704. No automatic recount. The state's Board of Canvassers will officially certify the results on Nov. 28.
This crusade is silly.
Yurovsky
(2,064 posts)as "silly", I think there are some valid issues being raised, and they should be investigated. However, I doubt the current effort would do anything to alter the result and prevent Orange Julius from seizing power next month.
I think our blood, sweat, tears, and yes, money are better spent working to retake the Senate in 2018, if not the House as well, and sending Drumpf into retirement in 2020 with the election of a progressive President and a supportive Congress. We also have a great deal of work to do at the state & local level in those areas where we are currently out of power.
I don't see this effort as beneficial to the true tasks at hand. Furthermore, the voting shenanigans might best be uncovered by investigative journalists and friendly court venues, which would a;so provide sufficient time to bring these irregularities to light (a time-limited recount window will most likely prove fruitless). And if the media steps up and alerts the public to any uncovered violations of election law, you could see a progressive wave election the likes of which none of us has ever seen in this country.

Every choice I made was printed. I will guess had I changed my vote, it would have printed a "subtract" vote for that race then recorded the new choice. Essentially it was documenting every choice button I hit in order. They can go over these tapes to work out why the vote totals don't match.

(186 posts)Here is an article posted on Fortune magazine about it:
http://fortune.com/2016/11/23/jill-stein-vote-recount-election/
She has to pay because the margins are not small enough. More than $2 million is needed to meet filing fees, not including legal and processing fees, to facilitate recounts in the three states. Wisconsin alone requires $1 million to file for a recount, and its deadline is Friday, November 25. Pennsylvanias deadline is Monday, and Michigans deadline is next Wednesday.

I'll do what you suggested, though. I'll wait until late Thursday night. If it looks like they are on the edge, I'll donate.
I'm one of those people the republicans consider an "entitled taker." I'm deaf (hence my screen name: musicblind), and suffer from several other ailments, and for that reason, I'm on disability. BUT, my financial situation reminds me, each day of my life, about the importance of government, helping other people, and doing all that you can for others, no matter my set backs. Our government has saved my life. I've had countless surgeries and have made it to age 34, and I know I'll have many more surgeries, but I'll also know that my government and people like you value my life and are there for me. Therefore, I must be there for them.
I sold some of my belongings during the general election in order to donate money to Hillary and I held a Halloween event with many of my friends to help raise money and register people to vote in NC.
So, just because I have only a small income, I always make sure to set some aside to help others.
Sorry for the long reply, I just wanted you to know that your offer surprised me and touched me. But, don't make it in my name, if you donate more, do it in your name. If it gets close, I'll find a way. I always do.

"Those are filing fees alone. The costs associated with recounts are a function of state law. Attorney's fees are likely to be another $2-3 million, then there are the costs of the statewide recount observers in all three states."

Anyone know how much time Jill has to raise the money? I know she will probably have more to pay WI and then there are legal fees. Don't suppose there is any way that the Clinton camp can help out if they had any funds remaining. I never heard if they still had campaign debt to retire.

(7,364 posts)She's taken in $6.7 million, minimum
She's paid out $3.5 million to Wisconsin, ~$1 million to Michigan, and probably no more than $150,000 to Pennsylvania. If she doesn't raise another dime, she's sitting on $2.1 million, and legal fees can't have been that much.
She padded the goal in the beginning, which gave her a little wiggle room when Wisconsin gave their $3.5 million estimate.

Here's a disturbing thread about the Wisconsin recount and a way we can still save it. #RecountWI #AuditTheVote
1. The difference in Wisconsin is currently about 22,000 votes, or 0.75%. #RecountWI
2.Optical scanning computers in WI, esp. ES&S DS-200, too often fail to count votes where voter intent could be discerned by hand #RecountWI
3. In Florida, due to voting machines, a shocking 1.67% of the people wearing an I Voted sticker actually didn't. #RecountWI
4. In Michigan, where the margin is only 11,000 votes, there are 75,000 not counted votes in Detroit alone. #RecountWI
5. Hand counts will identify and include legal votes missed by the machine; anyone who says otherwise is simply wrong.
6. Contrary to popular belief, recounting is faster by hand than to feed thousands of ballots through the machines one at a time. #RecountWI
7. 47 of 72 counties chose faster/more reliable method of hand recount. But 25 using same unreliable machines as on election night #RecountWI
8. This violates the Equal Protection Clause central to Bush v. Gore in 2000: similar ballots must be counted in the same way. #RecountWI
9. Hand counts are being used in predominantly white counties.Unreliable machines r used in counties w/large minority populations #RecountWI
10. We the People can help file a fed suit to force all WI counties to count by hand. We must ensure all votes are counted fairly #RecountWI
11. Please RT! Long list of severe issues in #RecountWI & efforts by Trump to block recount call for federal lawsuit
