In assessing Donald Trumps presidential victory, Americans continue to look away from this elections most alarming story: the successful effort by a hostile foreign power to manipulate public opinion before the vote.
U.S. intelligence agencies determined that the Russian government actively interfered in our elections. Russian state propaganda gave little doubt that this was done to support Republican nominee Trump, who repeatedly praised Vladimir Putin and excused the Russian presidents foreign aggression and domestic repression. Most significantly, U.S. intelligence agencies have affirmed that the Russian government directed the illegal hacking of private email accounts of the Democratic National Committee and prominent individuals. The emails were then released by WikiLeaks, which has benefited financially from a Russian state propaganda arm, used Russian operatives for security and made clear an intent to harm the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.

They could have done something about Trump before the election, but now we have to deal with Pence and/or Ryan taking over if they find enough to impeach Trump. I can't believe either would be an improvement.
We were cut off from DU and I got hit with a scam, so I missed the most interesting part of the election process until a week or so ago. So, maybe something happened during that period that I missed. I hope I never have to go thru another of those episodes. It's like someone cut me off at the knees.

(15,262 posts)Why hasn't Comey been canned yet? And who hacked the DNC and other Dems? Let's focus on what is within our jurisdiction. How people acted from outside our jurisdiction is relevant if it was controlled by actors inside the U.S., say via a server in Russia.
Put simply, what part of the 2016 shenanigans was Republicans at work? Their innocence is not part of our platform folks!

(5,486 posts)In all the coverage of this story today, no one seems to be mentioning anything about Paul Manafort and other campaign officials/advisors of Trump and their Russian connections and about the Trump campaign server that supposedly was communicating with a Russian entity.
Also, how Bannon and other Trump advisors and Trump himself in his rally speeches seemed to have a heads up of the content of some hacked email leaks before they were publicized, even seeming to know that a hacked email (falsified and altered) that referenced Sid Blumenthal was about to be released.
