I'm now picturing an obnoxious Trumplet thinking he's going to scare a skinny vegan with glasses and getting shot.
And I mean no offense to skinny people, vegans or the near/far sighted.

(25,922 posts)confiscating guns? That's when it will hit his supporters that they've been conned.
...maybe if liberals want gun control we should buy guns? I'm pretty sure the idea of an armed left is terrifying to some people.

(11,804 posts)they already believe that armed black people are threat - they think the way to deal with that threat is to kill armed black people.
Not much of a change except it will give them excuse to ramp up the paranoia

(11,996 posts)care if there is a race-based arms war.
Anyway - if people feel threatened, as apparently tons of people now do (we have lots of threads about it just on DU), then who can blame them? Sometimes safety pins just aren't enough.

(229 posts)Democrats, liberals, minorities, all should be well-armed.
I've felt that way since the Bush administration...

(28,778 posts)The arming-up of the likely targets of a Trump regime seems logical and justified to me. And I say that as a gun owner who has been an open proponent of gun control for decades. Trump's national victory tour is already drawing apt comparisons to Hitler's Nuremburg rallies; his base is filled with violent types, intent on harming members of various minority groups. We're damned fools if we don't prepare for the worst, because it's pretty obvious that the worst is upon us, big-time.
This is not the "they go low we go high" time. Shit is real and it's gonna get way worse before it gets better. I've never wanted a gun for leisure, and certainly never wanted to live anywhere where I felt one was necessary for protection. Now? I'm getting one. With the "silent majority" being so prevalent, I don't feel like there are any safe places.

(28,778 posts)Important point: Don't share your political viewpoints or reasons for acquiring a gun with anybody at the acquisition point, firing range, inquisitive neighbors, etc. If pressed, mumble something about "home security" or something like that. The gun industry and most gun enthusiasts have been part and parcel of the far right wing for many years. Nobody needs to know---and so far, nobody is entitled to know---the reasons for your choosing to arm yourself. The irony in all this is inescapable: for decades, the pro-gun movement has been propelled by paranoia of a left-wing government restricting firearms ownership, and one of the pro-gun movement's primary talking points has been that the 2nd Amendment is meant to preserve the public's ability to rise up against a tyrannical (and always presumably a left-wing) government. And along comes a radically right-wing government, by way of NRA wish fulfillment! Gotta love it, even in the midst of all the current danger. Stay safe.

(406 posts)Instruction is a no-brainer. I'm smart enough to know what I don't know.
As for announcing why I'm buying, I don't walk around spewing my political ideals. If anyone thought to inquire why I was buying, my response would be similar to any other inappropriate question: and that's your business why? I'm not a mumbler. Lol!
You stay safe too. I appreciate the info!

(6,498 posts)I'm a single female who lives alone in a red part of a very blue state. A cop was just killed two nights ago 10 minutes from where I live by a guy whose last words to his boss who'd fired him hours before the shooting were "God is good".
So ya...if going low means arming myself as a means of protection, the bar cannot be low enough.

(69 posts)...availing yourself of the constitutional right to self defense is very progressive. Your hatred for firearms is not relevant to the discussion.
My people (Native American) are perhaps the most reliable Democratic voting bloc in the nation, and we are also more heavily armed than southern rednecks. Damn near every household here on my rez has at least one firearm. We learned long ago the dangers of being forcibly disarmed. We won't make that mistake again.
