2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI have to pay for my TRUMP voting cousin's groceries this month
See? Now go ahead and ask me why he voted for Trump.
Why?
Because he wants Trump to build the wall to keep Mexicans from getting food stamps. He cannot get food stamps because he already gets too much support through SSI, section 8, Adult Public Assistance, medicaid and medicare, the heating program, and vouchers from a few other organizations.
But he hates the idea of them damn MEXICANS getting a few hundred bucks in food stamps.
He gets about 2500 in help through his various programs he spends his days googling. He works about 20 hours a week besides.
Could he afford his lifestyle and to eat? Sure. But he'd have to give up his brand new SUV with dark tint and new rims with five screens and all that bumping bass to do so. And stop flying to Cali 4 times a year.
Easier to blame mexicans and find a DUMB ASS DEMOCRAT to fix shit while he fucks it up.
So I will buy food out of my little bit of personal cash to feed his skinny ass while he dreams of snatching EBT cards from Mexicans.

It is stupidity.
These people are just plain stupid.

(3,032 posts)He drives trucks and is highly religious. He likes that Trump will get Mexicans off the roads and bring jobs back. I haven't pried because every conversation ends with a Clinton joke, but I wonder how he balances Trumps racism. He and his wife were Mitt Romney'smonly two votes in my precinct, BTW, so this is more a Republican thing than a Trump thing.

(34,648 posts)Some black folks actually blame other black fols too, and think it's the 'bad blacks' that make the rest of us look bad. Just like that guy with the taco truck comments.

What will happen is that will lose any vestige of a

Hard times a comin doesn't even begin to describe it.
I would give anything to see the look on my tRumplover fundie BIL's face when Uncle Sam hands him a $1500 voucher for his next bypass.

(26,977 posts)I wonder if we'll see alot of that during the Trump regime. Shrivelled up mummies inside fancy, expensive SUVs.
I have watched him in organ failure. No. He did wake up to make sure to ask about his car. But not to tell me his dog was home alone inside with no food or water. He'd die before he gave his reason for existing up. Just like some folks are about their guns. Crazy

(13,340 posts)My sister, whom I love very much, does the same kind of shit. She and her husband work hard, but they are not high-paying jobs.
My sister finally admitted to me that she voted for Trump. Her reason? Her health insurance is too expensive. OFFS...
Last week, she and I finally had a confrontation. On the same day, within THREE HOURS she posted that she can't afford health insurance, AND posted pics of her and her husband's (my BIL) new matching Harley Davidsons. Custom paint!
Talk about entitlement....

(71,265 posts)I am related to them. They were not raised that way and my 92 year old aunt is Appalled at their behavior and their vote.
Other parts of my family who voted for him claim other reasons but the ones in PA admit the real reason.
Luckily my immediate family here in Brooklyn are all Democrats.
My Facebook experience this year has not been pleasant. The only reason I keep FB is to make sure no one died.
AgadorSparticus
(7,963 posts)I just always imagined that most rascist people are rascists because they were raised that way. From one generation to the next. Their whole family is rascist so that is all they know? How did only a few of your family BECOME rascist? Friends? Gangs..in this case, kkk?

Settling his debt with China and Russia and whomever he owes money to, and Russia will be on the rampage in whatever way they want to be over in Europe. Whose to stop them? Also, tRump's going to be selling off parts of the USA to the highest non-US bidder at an alarming rate.
This country will not resemble anything we know at this moment in 2016.
Your cousin will be in such debt/despair eventually that you won't be able to support him and yourself and you'll have to turn him loose to fend for himself unless YOU want to be on the street with him.

(4,923 posts)I'm so pissed at my daughter-in-law I could scream. She not only supports the orange idiot but also posts horrible hateful anti-Hillary memes. This is an unemployed (but able-bodied) woman who grabs any handout or free services she can get, and hates anybody who doesn't look and think like her. I've always been generous with my family. This year I'm seriously considering making a donation to Planned Parenthood in their names and giving them each a Hillshire Farms sausage and cheese box.

If he has a new SUV he can buy his own groceries. Pure and simple.
What you are doing is enabling him. Don't. Starting this month.
If someone else in the family wants to buy him groceries let them. But explain to them, and him, why you aren't doing it.

(6,991 posts)Something tells me that with 1 in 7 families nationwide depending on food banks/pantries across this country (And usage is currently at a record high), that number's going to go WAYYYYY up over the next 4 years under a pence/tRump/putin administration.
I have a friend whose donated her time for many years off and on working at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank here in the LA County area, and she tells me that there are doing well. That donations come in steadily and that they usually have food on hand. However, she tells me that many in the food banking community are--and excuse my French--scared "shitless" at what this next administration will bring over the next 4 years and beyond. She's lifelong Catholic and cursing is not in her vocabulary, so it stunned me when she said shitless--and said it over and over again when we were talking a few weeks ago
I fully admit that I can be pretty pessimistic and very stark at times and for extended periods of time, but my friend has always been the optimist for not only me, but for our/her friends and family, and I/we love her so because she's never allowed me/us to get down or stay down emotionally. But, after what happened TO this country on November 8th, after that racist, crazy, insane dictator was put INTO the presidency, not only is her faith shaken, but many of her friends who work/volunteer in and around the food bank community that she corresponds with are pretty scared and sad because they feel austerity's coming and coming fast and hard to ALL food banks across this country. I can honestly say this is just about the first time that I've seen her negative and sullen like this for an extended period of time after an election, and I've known her for almost 28 years.
IF she's like this, then I KNOW I'm like

(94,657 posts)Month after month and year after year, until the "loans" were about 20 grand.
I was emotionally stretched to the limit by other events and ended up screaming NO at the last request when I finally snapped. Had to explain to my husband that it would never make a difference; that in the future she would stagger on with the same behavior and the same emergencies, and there was nothing we could do to make it change.
Nothing has changed, except she decided the "loans" were a gift. Oh, and she doesn't like me.
The other change? She doesn't get to emotionally blackmail me any more.

I'd get him some tuna, mac & cheese, pinto beans and peanut butter. No reason he can't survive on bland food until he learns to budget better. Or, maybe he could hook up with some great mexican cooks and learn to make his meals delicioso on a budget.
