Related: About this forumCLINTON won among voters that made $50,000 or less AND those said ECONOMY most important 7.3
https://img.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src=&w=1484In fact, if we extend that out to every state for which we have exit polling, in 22 of those 27 states a majority of people said that the economy was the most important issue. And in 20 of those states, voters who said so preferred Hillary Clinton. In 17, in fact, a majority of those voters backed Clinton....
In nearly every state, Clinton did better (and Trump worse) with voters worried about the economy than with the overall pool of voters. (Notice how the blue slices in the smaller circles extend further than the blue slices in the larger ones.)
How can that be? How can she win a majority of the majority and still lose? Because she lost with other groups worse.
The exit poll questionnaire gave voters a choice between four options for the most important issue. Clinton was generally preferred by those who said foreign policy was the most important issue, too, but Trump was preferred by those who saw immigration or terrorism as most important. The key is the margins. On average, about 13 percent of people in the 27 states said foreign policy was most important and they preferred Clinton by an average of 30 points.
On average, voters who said the economy was most important preferred Clinton by 7.3.
But on terrorism, rated most important by a fifth of voters, on average, Trump led by an average of 21.8 points. On immigration (most important to an average of 12.2 percent of respondents)? A huge 42.1 percentage point lead for Trump."

(6,496 posts)Seems kind of stupid like they want to pretend he won the popular vote too... (just don't pay attention to California because they don't matter). They got what they wanted. I can't understand what is wrong with these people. The sorest winners ever. I've seen it before in these tea party types though. They are relentless assholes. The mayor of my city got in office the first time by just barely winning a run off election against a dead man. His opponent died just a few days prior to the runoff election. You'd think the winner would be gracious, respectful and kind when speaking of his opponent who not only lost the election, but lost his life just a few days prior. You'd think that, but you would be wrong. Nope, pretty much the first thing out of this guy's mouth after he won was some complaint about his opponent running a dirty campaign... blah, blah, blah. It was total shit, but even if it was true, why bring it up anyway? You won. The other man is dead. These people are all about beating the dead horse... or man.

Facts don't matter with that narrative.

(2,117 posts)I trust what I hear people saying in interviews, and what people in the rust belt have been saying to those who will actually listen. That liberal southern guy on Bill Maher's last episode before his break was trying to explain what happened in the rust belt, half the panel didn't want to hear it

(47,209 posts)You know that they show up with a theme in mind and it wasn't thorny stuff that requires some self reflection like immigration or terrorism- (which were Trumps most popular policies) it was something they could can into a nice little thirty minute "lesson" for the Dems.
Have you noticed not one single person gets questioned about the "wall" or muslims? They want to pretend we never saw that ugliness because they don't know how to discuss it without offending viewers.
They continue to manipulate us.

(45,806 posts)I think the Con won because he's a trained TV Star. Before you call me an idiot, think about this. Reagan won, and was loved by a lot of people, and HE TOO was a trained movie star.
Both learned how to make people like you! Yes, manipulate them! think some people are more adaptable to being able to do that, and some wouldn't ever be able to pull it off.
I really like Hillary and I trust her, but I was apparently in the minority. But then, I ignored all the BS the Pubs threw t her for 25 years, and many other people couldn't. They said, with all those accusations, there HAS to something. It didn't matter that she was the most experienced candidate, running against the LEAST KNOWLEDGABLE candidate EVER!
Is it insane to think about training our Dems, at all levels, how to make people like you?
