The Civil War never ended

I keep thinking about this article and the competing visions for the Republic. It is wrong to think too simply about regions, because there are many people who believe in a kind of Confederacy in the bluest of states and many brave souls in red states who believe in things like the public good, but the mindsets, and cultural history, described here feel about right.
