(44,628 posts)from a prospective elector before he/she is allowed to be made part of the party's slate of electors. Under the circumstances, it's hard to see how it could be illegitimate for the party to tell a faithless elector that there will be consequences within the party from not supporting the party's nominee.

(3,194 posts)In no way are they concerned about reaching 270. They want to limit the # of defectors though, since obviously it makes them look bad. But the defectors will # in the single digits, probably 5 or less.
If there was a serious concern, you would see them freaking out.
