2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSimple question. Did Trump work with and or hire Russians in order to win the election?
And if so then how can he be sworn in as POTUS?

(185 posts)To date, there's no evidence he did either - should that come to light, he would be impeached.

(22,515 posts)i think its possible someone like Manafort got in touch with russia but did so without Trump's knowledge. But from Russia's standpoint if you want Trump elected you only hurt yourself by working directly with him. opens up too many avenues to get caught. Russia is perfectly capable of understanding how to hurt Hillary without coordinating with Trump directly.
And frankly i think Russia has done as much psych analysis on Trump as we all have. They know how easily he can be manipulated by stroking his ego. Putin wants a puppet, not a partner. Someone he can mold into enacting pro-Russian policies. and with the cabinet Trump has put together, Putin is well on his way to controlling Russia and the USA

(10,285 posts)...yes, Trump and Putin were working for the same goal, so that would include "work with" (broadly, at least). Trump would not have to "hire" Putin/Russians because they have common interests; they have mutual business ties/interest, obviously, also. Finally, Republicans are looking forward to ending FDR's USA for once and for all, so they will happily get out of the way and get President-elect Trump sworn in as POTUS.

(16,064 posts)have to be realistic here.....there is nothing in the Constitution that prevents a criminal from becoming president. If meets the eligibility requirements (he does) and he wins the election (he did) he will be sworn in. The only hope for a remedy is impeachment and that will not happen to a republican president with a republican congress.
