..look at a list. The sheer number seems remarkable.
As 2016 draws closed, we've lost a great number of notable personalities, from actors and musicians to sports figures, a former first lady, a Supreme Court Justice, and a daughter and mother just one day apart.
Here is a list of some of the notable people who died in 2016.

Debbie Reynolds, Dec. 28. The actress and humanitarian was the mother of Carrie Fisher, and died the day after her daughter. Reynolds was 84.
Carrie Fisher, Dec. 27. The actress and author best know as Princess Leia was 60.
George Michael, Dec. 25. The Grammy-winning musician was 53.
Zsa Zsa Gabor, Dec. 18. The actress known for her extravagant lifestyle was 99.
John Glenn, Dec. 8. The first American astronaut to circle Earth, and former United States Senator from Ohio, was 95.

Fidel Castro, Nov. 25. The Cuban revolutionary leader was 90.

Ralph Branca, Nov. 23. The former Brooklyn Dodger who gave up the "Shot Heard 'Round the World" to Bobby Thompson in 1951 was 90.
