"Arguing with a Trump supporter is like playing chess with a pidgeon.....

...No matter how good you are, the bird shits on the board and struts around like it's the champion."

(Wish I could take credit for that one, but I found it on another site this morning.)

5. I wonder how much these old rope operas helped to form me as a liberal.

Since I retired I've watched "Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Wyatt Earp, Maverick, Wagon Train, Big Valley, Roy Rogers and others. The one thing that stands out to me as an adult is not to use of guns and violence but a universal tolerance for the downtrodden. I know that most of these shows were highly inaccurate of life in those times but the lessons they taught me have been with me my whole life.

"Paladin • a knight renowned for heroism and chivalry." One think I missed as a child watching HGWT is his logo of a knight chess piece. While viewed as a gun for hire he was really a mythical knight without armor. Also I didn't remember the young Chinese? lady who is his minder. Anyway Paladin- great name you choose for yourself here at DU.

edit: I am so slow on the uptake sir knight- the chess joke is so appropriate to your name.

My middle school students think I have a razor tongue. My problem is when someone smarts mouths me my reaction is to out smart mouth them. I guess it beats beating them.

Not if they're part of the ignorant crowd who bought into the idiotic "Both candidates are equally bad" propaganda.

8. Trump people have tremendous hope in him

I was in the doctors office, orthopedist so there were a lot of injured miners and working people and I was listening to the conversation.

Workers feel like Trump is in their corner and will fight for their jobs.

They feel like democrats are only for minorities and don't care about the economy much.

I'm not sure that Trump can deliver on what these people are projecting on him. In some ways it's a lot like how people had such hope in Obama.

However I worry that if Trump is able to create the impression he's fighting for the working class, and he's certainly trying with this tweeting about companies, it's going to be a real hard thing for the Dems to fight.

When the economy tanks again due to these tax cuts and deregulation that are coming we need to be ready not to just win by snagging people pissed off, but we need to develop an economic policy and pimp it to stay in power long enough to stop the country from going down the tubes.

I feel Obama has turned around the economy, but he did not toot his own horn enough and also due to the severity of the crash it's taken to the end of his presidency to reach it.

10. If Trump's tweets keep causing billion-dollar stock losses for companies, his time's limited.

Trump's bizarre behavior, awful appointments, non-existent policies, and reliance upon blatant Russian intervention ought to be sufficient to spark a Democratic revival. If the party can't take advantage of these circumstances and mount a comeback, it is no longer worthy of our efforts. And I say that as a loyal Hillary supporter.
