National Occupy Day In Support of Prisoners: Statement from Formerly Incarcerated People

http://occupywallst.org/article/f20-national-occupy-day-support-prisoners-statemen/

NOTE TO OCCUPY WALL STREET---

I know we're old and slow and not Generation Next but... even people your age have a life...

Every time I go to the Occupy Wall Street page I see a great idea for a protest... that has already happened.

Posting something that is scheduled for 2 days from now may be cool but it's more punk than pragmatic.

So this event already happened...

Then again, maybe it was always ment to be a punk/hippie movement.

that you seemed to be angry at OWS, too.

So, folks might not have gotten what you were talking about with "Punk/Hippies" being OWS...when there are many older folks who are in total support from all walks of life and in all shapes, sizes and colors.

Didn't get where you were coming from except that I could understand if folks have been doing this for 20 years and OWS only posted about it two days before your regular protest that you thought it was too little too late. But, OWS is so NEW it's just getting itself together.

Maybe they were late posting about the Prisoners Rights that have been ongoing for 20 years...but, hopefully next year they will have enough organization they can help with your protest and not just 2 days before.

Seriously...that movement isn't Hippie/Punksters/Druggies or whatever the RW wants to throw at it. It's cross-generation and growing. Hang in there. the "New Yorker Mag." has an article up focusing on "Americans in Cages" that does a decent job about what we are doing to our fellow Americans locking more up than Russia did in Siberia (I think that's what they said).

If you haven't read it...Google New Yorker/Prisons for the latest. I don't have the link handy right now.

I was just saying that scheduling a protest during the week and posting it two days before pretty much guarantees that only core OWS shows up. I was wondering if that is the idea.

On edit: Is this a way to keep anarchists from showing up?

of the week to shut down the ports, with only a few days notice?

But I do agree the sooner they advertise what they are doing the more people are likely to show up. I think the Spring and Summer events will be huge, some already planned, globally.

Fuck this shit. Yeah, Republican candidates are horrific. So we can choose less horrific by a matter of degrees. Wanna bet that his Supreme Court pick turns conservative after his reelection?
