10:20 Just now, Acting Up, via AP: "AIDS and Occupy protesters wearing Robin Hood costumes were arrested after chaining themselves together and blocking traffic in the Wall Street area. About 10 chanting and sign-waving protesters conducted the action on Wednesday in lower Manhattan. Police used chain cutters and wrestled protesters to the pavement in the middle of Broadway. New York Stock Exchange workers jeered...Police appeared and called for backup. Traffic was stopped cold for blocks. The protest was a prelude to a larger march. Members of the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power and other groups were gathering at City Hall. They'll walk down Broadway ending at Trinity Church near Wall Street with a tribute to loved ones lost to AIDS."
9:20 Just got this release from Occupy press office in NY: "Demonstrations and creative protests are set for campuses and communities around the country today, on April 25th to mark One Trillion Dollar Day (1TDay), the day U.S. student debt reaches $1Trillion. These coordinated actions will draw attention to Wall Streets predatory student loan market, as well as the corrupt lending practices at educational institutions. 1TDay will spotlight the long-term financial and social effects of students and families with insurmountable student debt.
" Solidarity actions are planned for at least a dozen cities, from Sallie Mae National Headquarters in Newark, Delaware and all of its regional offices. Demonstrators will engage in coordinated non-violent civil disobedience. Some actions include burning loan cards. Actions in NYC with Occupy Wall Street and a coalition of student and community groups, will include mock celebrations with Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir, the Plus Brigades and Billionaires for Debt." New Yorkers meet at 4 pm at Union Sq.
