You're another one I've missed! Thanks for the tip! I've never seen a group make history so fast in my life. And isn't it strange, Occupy stops for a minute to catch its breath, and once again the media discourse goes from economic disparity right back to repub wedge issues aka social conservatism?

Maybe Mike has no objection to being followed on twitter. If the alerter had asked first, we might have gotten the answer.

He's petty upset with the way things are going, I think he might be less eager to post on DU these days but I encouraged him to pop in his head and visit.

Let's put it this way... as a reporter I SHOULD NOT know some of the details I know from OSD.

No really. I should not.

Today on the way back from covering something else I debated wether to go visit, it was on the same trolley line. I may go tomorrow for the GA. But today, I needed to get some food and write... and process photos.

I really want to know if the drama has now mostly stopped, I really do.

We did a few Occupy L.A. protests together, and I'm looking forward to our joining up again. We also joined with some other great DUers--U4iflefty and Zhade.

I hope Fire returns here, but that's his call. In any case, the next time we do an action together, you can count on hearing from ME.

pinboy3niner was my last radio callsign when I was leading an army Infantry platoon in Vietnam.

Badass Airborne soldiers. I am floored. My older brother was in Vietnam 67 - 68. He was in the Third Infantry, and had his C.I.B.. He tossed his medals after he got out of the Army and wouldn't talk about the war. I didn't know he was there until Mom told me. He was a really big guy, but when Vietnam came on the news on t.v. he would start shaking and turn the channel. When he returned, he was in D.C. and did guard duty at the unknowns tomb.

I would guess the radio you used in the field was the PRC 25. I have a ham radio license, and am fascinated by military surplus radios.

Thanks for your service, as if thanks are enough.

That was our field radio--one for the plt ldr, one for the plt sgt, and one for each squad leader.

The C.I.B.--Combat Infantryman's Badge--is pretty special to those of us who were there. Think of Charlie Sheen in 'Platoon'--you had to do your time down in the dirt and the mud as a grunt, under fire, to earn that. Your brother's CIB means that he's been to hell and back as an Infantryman.

And that he was selected for the 'Old Guard,' the 3rd Infantry at Ft. Meyer, may be a bigger deal than you realize. The Army picked only the cream of the crop--the very BEST troops--for that duty.

Your brother must be a very good man. When you see him, tell him another brother said, "Welcome home."

It's been so long... I spent a few summers in D.C. in the early 70s when he was stationed there. Memory is faded... I seem to remember a blue and white rope on his khaki shirt... he was a Spec 4. (?) When years later I saw what he did at the tomb with the rifle drills, it was hard to believe it was him. It looks almost humanly impossible.

I did get to eat C-rations. Sliced beef, beans and wienies, peanut butter that was like spackling glue, Chicklets, little short packs of Lucky Strikes. The little can opener thingie. Sliced peaches.

D.C. at the time was a rather dangerous place. He lived in Sterling Va. and commuted to D.C.. I loved D.C. and Northern Va in the summmertime. This was 70 to 73, history was in the humid air.

Well, I've rambled on again. Thanks and good vibes!
