Occupy LA activists demand moratorium on all foreclosures

California had the nation’s highest foreclosure rate this summer, contributing to at least two major cities seeking bankruptcy protection. The state attorney general has promised relief but homeowners have yet to see it.

California lawmakers did pass the California Homeowner’s Bill of Rights to help struggling homeowners deal with foreclosures. But the law does not take effect until January 1st, 2013, leaving no immediate assistance for people facing foreclosures now.

Occupier Carlos Marroquin says state Attorney General Kamala Harris received 18 billion dollars from the nation’s banks to help with foreclosure relief. That settlement money was meant to go to the people, but Marroquin says instead it’s going back to the banks in the form of short sales.
