http://rt.com/news/software-tracks-predicts-raytheon-878/A video obtained exclusively by The Guardian shows how software developed by the US defense contractor Raytheon, can gather vast amounts of personal information from social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare.
Raytheon has admitted that the technology was shared with the US government as part of a joint research and development program in 2010, as part of an effort to build a national security system capable of analyzing trillions of entities from cyberspace.
But, the Massachusetts-based company says it has not sold the software, which is called Riot, or Rapid Information Overlay Technology, to any clients.
The controversial software allegedly enables access to entire parts of a persons life, their friends, any pictures of themselves they have posted online and places they have visited charted on a map.

(2,101 posts)It amazes me that this comes as news to so many. LE, FBI, CIA, etc, etc, right down to anyone with half a brain just loves how easy social networking has made investigation. Add in a little data mining and presto, its off to the gym at 6 am.

(4,835 posts)There's some kind of high school year book app that asked that. It isn't that I have something to hide, but I don't want anything posting as me.

(2,101 posts)I had not logged onto FB for nearly a year, and was well aware of their 'Timeline' and its irreversible intrusions into privacy. What a surprise I had upon logging on a few weeks ago - Timeline has magically appeared on my account! Its going to be only for my own investigations, curiosities or stalking that I will ever log on again.

(4,835 posts)He has joined and abandoned Facebook twice (that I know of). I have another old friend that belongs to google+ and occasionally bitches about Facebook.
One day I logged on and it told me that my wife had read a story on yahoo. It didn't show up on her newsfeed. She was kinda pissed.
I expect that one day I will just walk away from it. I've learned that I have too many bat-shit crazy gun-nut family members anyway. I'm pretty sure I don't want to hear what they have to say anymore.

(2,101 posts)They, the gun nuts and the crazies, will continue to crawl out of the woodwork. Its been my experience that they, the silent, reserved ones, grow over the decades to become more and more opinionated and bold in their identities. You know, the kind of thing that happens to most people after the 4th or 5th girlfriend or women rips your heart out and you decide to become a man. Sometimes other factors apply, but becoming a man by 30 is a fair standard. Sadly, the chances become slimmer after that.
Too many grown men, it doesn't matter if they're 90, never make it to manhood, but think that having a gun, beating people up, listening to hate radio, etc is a good enough substitute. It obviously works as a suitable substitute because enough other cowards (oops, I meant men) that they believe to be men approve, so they too must be a man.
I'm a man and I know it. I don't need a gun. I support LGBT and equality and the Dream Act. I'm straight, an ally, and a white male. I'm not afraid to call someone out if they're being a bigot, racist, misogamist, gay basher, etc. I live in the reddest part of Florida and I look like a hater because I'm a motorcycle mechanic. I hear less and less of it because once someone has run his mouth, I do my best to make him look stupid. I may not be able to write well, but occasionally I can articulate my feelings quite well.
Keep up the fight. Remember to stay off the social sites, return the little things your wife does for you, hold people blameless for what they do, for they only do what they think is right, help them if you can.
(sorry, didn't mean to write a book)
