La Casa Azul Bookstore is a LIBROTRAFICANTE
First, the Tucson school district came for the Mexican American studies program. Now, its come for its book.
In the aftermath of the suspension of the Tucson Unified School Districts Mexican American studies department, TUSD has confiscated MAS teaching materials. Besides artwork and posters etc, that includes books.
Activists, artists and writers have organized the Librotraficante Caravan, which will travel from Houston to Tucson, carrying contraband books, creating networks of Underground Libraries and leaving community resources in its wake.
The caravan is intended to:
- Raise awareness of the prohibition of the Mexican American Studies Program and the removal of books from classrooms.
- Promote banned authors and their contributions to American Literature.
- Celebrate diversity. Children of the American Dream must unite to preserve the civil rights of all Americans.
- Create a network of resources for art, literature and activism.

(719 posts)ban books, we're gonna have to come up with a politically correct way of disposing of them. Burning them seems most efficient... so what is the accepted protocol for burning books these days? Does one throw them into a burn-barrel as the military does, or make a big bonfire out of them as Hitler did?
Inquiring minds wanna know!
