Detroit, Michigan, may be the epicenter of the nation's foreclosure crisis, as banks continue to evict residents from their homes at an alarming pace (video below).
However, a growing grassroots movement has recently blocked evictions and kept families in their homes, reports TheRealNews.com.
Retired factory worker Jerry Cullors arose to an eviction notice and a giant dumpster outside his home on the morning of Oct. 31, 2012.
"We woke up, and a dumpster was sitting right on the side of the house over here," he said. "You know, we were shocked about it 'cause we didn't know anything about it. We never received anything in the mail or by phone as to what was going on."

On Saturday, March 9, 2013, concerned citizens and community support groups gathered on the sidewalk directly in front of Metro Property Management, LLC located at 10641 Joy Road, Detroit, MI to protest the eviction of Urealdene Henderson. Ms. Henderson, who has lived in her home for over 36 years, is facing eviction due to an error caused by the Wayne County Treasurer and the greed of Metro Property Management. Representing Ms. Henderson, Lawyer Bob Day explained what happened in the following video taken during the anti-eviction action.
Ms. Henderson reported that she has been receiving intimidating notices on her door such as
This property is illegally occupied by a SQUATTER. The Detroit Police Department has been notified.
The notice went even further stating that she would be:
arrested by the Detroit Police Department for Trespassing
and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
