Occupy Underground

...just a general shout out to everybody! Who all is on here right now, and what's on your mind? Doesn't have to be anything earthshaking. I am in Erie, Pa., I can see the lake from my window. Halfway between Buffalo NY and Cleveland OH. Just finished watching (listening to) Rachel while reading V for Vendettta. I'm up to the part where Evey is imprisoned. Tried a new Ben and Jerry flavor called "Bonnaroo" (Coffee and malt ice cream with whiskey caramel swirls and english toffee pieces) while sipping Cafe. Francais. Mmmmm! .
Come out of your tents and say hi everybody! It's beautiful outside tonite!

(3,574 posts)...to the live stream? I and I'm sure others would like to view this. I hope Freedom is O.K., I watched her cover the LA eviction for hours straight. She was absolutely fearless and street smart, she would have made one of the. Vietnam combat journalists smile. Vibes for her safety.

(3,574 posts)Thanks Pinboy! I'm going to check out the link now, I was redownloading Ustream in case I needed it. Back after I watch.

(3,574 posts)I can't get the ustream of walmart to play from the link, it stays stuck at 0% buffering. I tried to watch her interview on Ustream, and it keeps stopping every 5 seconds like clockwork for buffering. It might be atmospherics, I'm in a bad location indoors on a samsung intercept. I tried moving ustream to the sd card, didn't help. Shit. Ideas anyone?

(3,574 posts)1. Camping out next to city hall is one thing. You go after Wal-Mart, it's on, baby.
2. Speaking in a provocative manner to cops, such as "did you even finish high school", or "why don't YOU move back"? , while perhaps momentarily gratifying, is just plain stupid. I would not want to live with something stupid coming out of my mouth getting someone hurt. When Freedom speaks to the police, she is polite and it's "sir" and respectfully asked questions. You want them to wonder when they go home "why are they making us do this to these nice peaceful people", NOT "boy, it felt good smacking that foulmouthed disrespectful asshole in the teeth with my baton".
It took me twice as long as the running timeto watch this, due to all the buffering, but it was worth it. I look forward to more from freedom and to seeing all of you safe and free.

(12,875 posts)Project I'm involved in marginally related... lot of heat on all things activism related right now... we have to be real careful until we get past the funding hump. When you start trying to get funding for stuff, that's when pro-establishment folks in the community start pulling the strings. And even in a liberal community (actually, especially in an affluent community, because they aren't the ones hurting) they tend to resent activists for some reason... usually they say "I used to be like you, that's why I'm willing to speak to you"... aargh
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)What a condescending stinking thing to say!
Well, what they're saying, explicitly, is, "I'm not like you anymore."
And then after some patronizing chat they turn to meet with their other friends who are no longer like you, if ever they were.
Crap.

(53,661 posts)This seems to be commericalized, and in order to be a featured video I believe they have to pay youtube for designating it that way so it ends up on the top of the links on the righthand side of pages.
BP and the Mormons are often in those slots, so I don't watch featured videos, and they aren't exactly Occupy support. I used the search function to see if there were simliar videos of Russell Simmons involved with Occupy and there were.
Just wanting to know if the funding you mention is paying for these videos. If this is a good thing or bad thing, and should I link to those videos. Although this one seems to cover a lot more issues than just Occupy. I didn't even know that TYT was being featured, they always seemed to be low-budget.
Peace Out, Occupy. Love you all.

(12,875 posts)If so I shared Chan790's concerns simply about the angle of who determines who gets access to the "national Occupy office" and stuff like that (in another thread).
The funding for the project I mentioned was for a much more local and low-key endeavor which might provide some local support for Occupy... when it comes to providing space, living space and so forth I think that's the model Occupy should be pursuing... distributed throughout the neighboroods, possibly with each space providing support for a neighborhood assembly
GOOD NEWS, EVERYPONY
The problems I was having for work-related stuff seem to have solved themselves, so I'll have much more time than I did this past week.

(3,574 posts)... bless this young man. I couldn't do it. Too old and busted up. He is a college kid, about 6'3 (no exaggeration) and built like a brick. I spent a lot of time talking to him, he stayed after the rest broke physically and went indoors. I will drop in on him tommorow with doughnuts or pizza. I'll tell him it's from all of the occupiers in this thread.

(12,875 posts)I think unions and other organizational donors shoul (have, it's now spring) consider(ed) donating sets of long johns for anyone wishing to occupy. It would really help, I myself would have to do so before I could bear to remain outside for more than a couple hours until the weather wamed up about a week ago.
unionworks
(3,574 posts)sp He won't eat any food donation off the street unless yoju help eat some! Actually the unions have been wonderful with assistance to Occupy Erie. But driving past and seeing this lone holdout in the dead of winter....you have to know the story of Commmodore Perry and the war of 1812, and the hardship they faced to appreciate it. Eries motto is "Don't Give Up The Ship". This young man embodies that motto.

(84,711 posts)That's one dedicated Dude... But, can't be for everyone, with families to feed and trying to keep life together without going off on...because they can't afford meds to help...or dull the pain of what some of us see out there as so HORRIBLY WRONG in our country!
Means that it's left to some of us who can afford the time..for whatever reason...to JUST KEEP AT IT! Whichever way we can....whatever way we can...Donations...attending a weekend march if you are off work...promoting a website with your comments "Positive" about the actions OWS is taking or just trying to spread the word wherever you can if you aren't mobile or connected anywhere but the NET...
We have to "COME TOGETHER." This is Serious...beyond anything any of us have ever known in our lives.
