Might there be another issue involved here, that our culture exalts violence to the point of a religion? So long as "strength" is defined as the ability to impose one's will on another, people will fantasise about this "strength," and some will cross the line to actually trying to be "strong."

I wonder, however, how much indulging fantasy by watching some violent "entertainment" serves to sublimate it, and how much such indulgence tends to evoke emulation? It would be nice to have some data about this, but it would have to be a long-term experiment and not a quickie.

When you start digging into it, that you are correct, we are dealing with vicarious violence on an almost constant basis.

They've done studies on video games, but not on adult entertainment-- well there are many studies on porn, usually of the "quckie" (heh) variety-- polling college students for instance. The violence as entertainment would indeed be interesting done over a period of ten or twenty years.
