(17,841 posts)I don't think the objection is really "because then I might not get to fuck her." I think the objection is rather "But that means I have to actually make an effort to relate to her."

(27,473 posts)or, far too often, in real life characters.
malthaussen
(17,841 posts)That certainly wasn't my intent. Although I suppose if the guy cannot really comprehend relating to another person, he wouldn't be able to absorb the idea of a relationship being necessary (to say nothing of rewarding).

(42,507 posts)we've been told, female and male that we don't think alike, that women have less of sex so drive than men, both ideas that are beng reexamined
First, men and women do think much alike, I think it's when relationships get intimate-- no matter what the gender, that differences become apparent, second women, like men have varying degrees of 'sex drives' but women tend not to have the social pressure to 'get laid' that men do, instead have social pressure not to. We're at a bit of a crossroads gender wise, and the 'rules' are not so much changing as morphing into unrecognizable ideals.
So the guy in the cartoon is situational, he's not loking to "relate" as much he's truly lookng to get laid. Not, shall we say, exactly boyfriend material or even, most likely much good for a zipless fuck (to quote Erica Jong)

(161,171 posts)it's not that men are pressured to "get laid" - it's that women are pressured to NOT get laid - by being labeled as loose women, sluts, etc. Also, men don't worry so much that the gal he's with could seriously injure or kill him.

Women pressure not to
Poorly worded sorry
malthaussen
(17,841 posts)But maybe that pressure isn't so great now. OTOH, I don't see much in modern culture that indicates a belief that women are good for much else...

(17,841 posts)In either event, spending even two minutes finding out who she is is not something in which our hero has an interest.
I had an interesting discussion with Redqueen awhile back. Reddit had had a marathon of men posting their experiences of raping women. One guy made a point which struck around this area: he didn't want to look at the woman's face. Pretty depersonalizing, nyet? And rather an extreme case of someone who doesn't want to relate.

MIRT is well aware of them, him, it whatever.
shenmue
(38,538 posts)the one from the first post?
I think he was banned before I finished typing out my alert request.
He's a little OCD or something. He's down as a person(s) that MIRT watches for. And today has been busy

(25,699 posts)I have to second the statement that the last panel isn't an accurate depiction of the "reasons." i think Malthaussen nailed it pretty well - the objection isn't that he "won't get to fuck her," the objection is that he's being asked tothink of someone other htna himself, in particular a woman.

(42,507 posts)Is mostly a waste of time.
I like conversations, not whatever it is they think they're doing there. Once in awhile it gets real so it's not a total loss
