Before the 19th amendment came along in 1920, only men could cast votes in an election. The fight for women's rights was long and hard, and the suffragists were met with plenty of opposition from people who believed that women couldn't handle the responsibility of voting.

These posters and postcards depict some of the rampant sexism that raged during the suffragist movement, and man oh man (pun intended?), are they ridiculous.

I think people today think that women never faced 'real' discrimination, and that in less than 100 years of getting the vote, we are all EQUAL and that the vote was enough for the female sex. The sexism portrayed in these vintage posters are well and alive in todays world.

I read novels from 15 years ago that still use the word 'frigid'. We are called pearl clutches, prudes--and I sooo want to say something to refute that but I never do-- because fuck that and fuck them.
