Need help finding new new posts in threads

Can someone please tell me how I can see new posts added to a thread when I return to it a second or third time? Not posts to me, just new ones.

All the comment titles are the same, new ones are not highlighted.

Much appreciated.

OK, I'm getting a handle on replies to me.

Any suggestions on seeing new posts in a thread I have not commented in?

For example, if I read a thread in the morning and then go back to it in the afternoon, how do I figure out what the new posts added since the morning are? Or do I have to read the entire thread over again?

They're numbered, so it's not too hard.

(But, yeah, it could be easier)

I was afraid of that. A bit cumbersome.

On top of the list of threads it says "Always highlight: 10 newest replies" or "Replies posted after I mark a forum
".

I've tried toggling between those two options thinking it would highlight the newest posts since I visited, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Thanks for your reply!

While viewing DU in Standard or Classic mode (but not in Mobile view), if you look under an opening post on the right side you can see the options as links - Always highlight: 10 newest replies | Replies posted after I mark a forum.

If 10 newest replies is selected, each thread should show the last ten replies as yellow unread icons and the older ones as white read icons.

If you select Replies posted after I mark a forum then any replies made in that forum after you hit the Mark as read will have the yellow unread icon and the ones made prior to you marking the forum will use the white read icons.

Unfortunately you can't track new posts in individual threads - only by each forum/group. Users on Mobile view also have the issue of not being able to see the links to select how the mark function will work for them. Here is the web address to toggle between the two options:

(NOTE: do not click this link unless you want to change your Mark as Read setting!)
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=thread&address=125614163&togglemark=1#toc

That thread has over ten replies, so it should be easy to see how the mark function is set.

The Mark as read button is near the top of each forum page listing the threads. For example:

https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1256

That''s what we have, you'll have to play with it to decide if you find it useful or not.

Thank you so much for such a clear response. I see how it works.

So far I have been starting at the main page, www.democraticunderground.com, and not looking at individual topics. The main page does not have the "Mark as read" button, nor do the articles you open from there. So when I opened a thread, toggling back and forth from, " Always highlight: 10 newest replies | Replies posted after I mark a forum", didn't make a difference.

I will play with this. It will make a huge difference as far as following the discussions.

Thanks again.

I don't post much, so I haven't figured out everything about how the forum works. That's very helpful.

Have a good day!
