DU Community Help
Related: About this forumQuestions about posting images
I've used Imgur for years to upload and share images to forums, but on DU my pics appear with [ IMG ] brackets showing. The image quality isn't great, either. Tried Tinypic today and the same thing happened- brackets showing, poor image quality.
I use the BB code link and have never had these issues elsewhere, only on DU. Should I be copying and using a different link when posting here? Or ??? I'm stumped.
I would blame my PoS Chinese spy phone (ZTE), but the same thing happens when posting from my iPad.
Is there a preferred image hosting/uploading site for DU users?
Thank you.

THis is just a straight 'copy link' from imgur and paste into the message body:

I'm not using any DU buttons, just a straight paste of the copied link. Which link option on Imgur are you copying? There's like 4 or 5.
The Truth Is Here
(354 posts)if you're not seeing a .png or .jpg or .gif extension it's not the right link

(33,643 posts)Gives me a little green dot icon to the right of the URL window. This allows drag and drop from a file folder to imgur, it's pretty slick. Anyways, I click the green dot and see my imgur gallery, then I highlight the image and click the bottom-right 'copy link' button, paste into DU.
Since it sounds like you're using a phone, and I don't have imgur app on my phone itself, not sure how to it do on a phone. I upload from phone to OneDrive, which then becomes available on my PC, then I click/drag from onedrive folder on my PC to the imgur extension, in chrome. Then copy link from my imgur gallery.
I don't DU on my phone, way too much work, I need a proper keyboard

(5,092 posts)I don't have a computer, only my iPad and this crappy, low-end Android phone. I use the Imgur website, not the app. Got burned by Photobucket many years ago and have gone the free "anonymous" route ever since.
A Mac is definitely top of the list when probate on a family estate is finally done. I hate thinking about the money, I'd much, much rather have my grandparents around, but I do need a computer.

(5,092 posts)I'm going to use this space to play around with the different link options. I don't see a direct layout option on Imgur, but I think there was one on Tinypic.
First try: the Direct link option. Sounds close and has the jpeg extension
Success on the first try!
Using the BBCode link was the problem, Direct link is a winner! Thank you!
(the pic is our Waylon. He was a good boy.)

Can you tell there's a Treat involved in this pic at all? Theo (the pittie) is also quite the high-fiver

(5,092 posts)The one of the left looks like a english pointer/dalmatian/cattle dog mix of awesomeness! And I love pitties. Your guy looks so sweet. There miiight be a treat involved in my pic, too, lol!
Waylon was technically my husband's dog, but I loved him dearly. We both had adult dogs when we met.. He rescued (cough*stole*cough) Waylon's whole litter from an abusive asshole. All the pups had mange, all 6 were gated into a filthy, medium sized closet, and the asshole tossed them raw meat to fight over.
We think they were American Bulldog mixes. Maybe Am Staff?
My SiL is a vet and she fixed 'em up. Hubby found homes for all the pups, but says he knew Waylon was his as soon as they saw each other.
Almost forgot my fancy new posting skills! Here's my fav pic of Waylon and my girl, Maggie. They adored each other. I love Maggie's long-suffering look about the nibbling.

(33,643 posts)Nice that he rescued them pups! Kudos to the man!
As for ours, the one on the left is Harvey (of Batman fame ... note the face coloring, which was even more distinctly two-tone as a pup) and we found him at 6 months old, dodging among 4 lanes of traffic in Mesa, AZ ... in July ... in 110F weather. We did everything to find his proper home, including putting up signs and driving all over the neighborhood where we found him, posting on CL and Pets911.com, etc. Nada ... someone really messed up losing that dog, cause he's AWESOME.
I believe him to be predominately Braque D'Auvergne (a type of French Pointer), I'm guessing mixed with Great Dane due to his size/weight exceeding that of the Braque's typical limit by a few inches and 10+ lbs (he's an 82lb dog), plus the imperfection in his facial coloring (supposed to have bilateral symmetry, which his does not). He's even more gorgeous than he looks in that pic ... cute as a button, but also just rippling with muscle. He's an absolute lovebug, too, when it comes to people ... but he don't truck with no other dogs, apart from Theo. He's fiercely territorial, like he will F*** UP any other dog he sees if you give him the chance. It's a trip. Suffice to say, he don't get to go to the dog park!
We really wonder what happened to him in his first 6 months. He's terrified of the fly swatter, for example ...
Here's a typical Braque, and Harvey looks EXACTLY like this, but without the symmetrical facial coloring, and slightly bigger):
