where Moscow Mitch would tell his caucus to stay home on the day of the vote. That way the senators could say they were busy doing things for the county. The Dems would vote to convict and that would be the end of it. I hope it turns out that way.

(then-Majority Leader McConnell) wanted it. I think it is possible within the Senate rules structure, but not sure it has been done in the past. Certainly never for Presidential impeachments, but possibly for others.

And it turned into the Predator with Terminator persistency to destroy its makers, I can see why they are afraid. The monster will harm them, and maybe their families, for not supporting Trump. Best bet is to wait until the Democrats save the day and things cool off. They can then move stealthily away from T-Wrecks.

To convict. Trump had an iron clad following, and a large part of it were people that wouldn’t normally vote for R, or maybe even vote at all. He thought that as long as they supported trump they wouldn’t have to campaign to lock in that voting block. As those voters abandon trump the rethugs will free to do so. Of course many Rs support most of his ideas anyway so it’s not going to be a huge migration away from the rethug party, but it will be significant. Also I’m sure most of them can’t stand trump personally.

They are transactional, like Trump. They have no values, no plans, except holding onto office. The repub party platform was whatever Trump says it was. They are treacherous. There are exceptions, but too few to expect conviction of Trump.
