Why A New Gun Bill Ticks Off Mental Health Advocates

The Florida Legislature passed a gun control measure this year that would prevent more people with mental illness from buying guns.

It essentially closes a loophole that enables people who seek mental health treatment to buy guns.

The bipartisan bill even got strong support from the National Rifle Association.

But some critics think it may do more harm than good.

As a person with bipolar II, I am in no way the exact same way as others with the same illness. But due to stigma by the way of stereotypes, people reading this post will assume plenty of things that aren't true.

other medical disorder under the law. If we are going to stigmatize mental illness, why not all illness? Because I can show an MRI with multiple lesions in both hemispheres does that make me any more sane than the 30 or more years when they said "Its all in your head." and diagnosed me with depression and Bipolar?

Upon doctors orders. Except that mental illnesses are already treated like other illnesses in that respect. Oops.
