Court upholds ruling on Seattle ‘gun violence tax’
County Superior Court upheld legislation allowing the City of Seattle to tax gun and ammunition sales, according to documents released on Tuesday.
Seattle City Council unanimously approved the Gun and Violence Tax in August; it charges $25 for every firearm legally sold in Seattle.
In addition to the 2 to 5 cents added to sales of certain types of ammunition, it would owners require reporting lost or stolen guns within 24 hours of their disappearance.

Reminds me of Chris Rock's idea for reducing gun violence; make bullets cost $5000 each.
A tax on machine guns is what effectively made them illegal. Because of the Mob violence in the '20s a $200 tax was put on guns like the Thompson sub machine gun (that's like $10,000 now) making them too expensive. SCOTUS has ruled such taxes constitutional.
FYI, it is perfectly legal to own fully automatic firearms. It takes a special application to the BATF&E, background checks from everybody between the local animal control officer and Loretta Lynch, a process that takes three years and special storage requirements. Plus the tax.
I personally would like to see a $1000 tax on all semi-auto weapons with interchangeable magazines and a $100 tax on each magazine.
