Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly Respond to the Gun Tragedy in Dallas, Texas
July 8, 2016 Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Navy combat veteran and NASA astronaut Captain Mark Kelly, the Co-Founders of the gun violence prevention organization Americans for Responsible Solutions, issued the below statement today responding to last nights gun tragedy in Dallas, Texas that left five law enforcement officers dead and seven injured.
STATEMENT BY CONGRESSWOMAN GABRIELLE GIFFORDS & CAPTAIN MARK KELLY
This morning, Americans woke to reports of carnage on the streets of Dallas. As they worked to protect peaceful citizens demanding justice for killings in Louisiana and Minnesota, five law enforcement officers were set upon with firearms and assassinated.
We dont know all the facts, but we do know this is a monstrous attack against our law enforcement community and the idea that we can and should come together as Americans to address our shared challenges. Not only was it murder in cold blood; it was a vicious attempt to divide us, and it will fail.
It is also another sad reminder that our nation remains in the grips of a gun violence crisis that touches every community and everyone those who wear the uniform, and those who do not. This is not the America we strive for. We have to do better, and we can.

I totally agree with Mark and Gabby -- we CAN do better. We can do better by electing Democrats who do not accept bribes from the right-wing gun lobby to enact insane pro-gun laws in order to sell more guns for profit. We can do better by electing Democrats who will introduce reasonable gun control legislation, and see it through until passage.
We can do better by electing honest Democrats who will represent the majority of Americans who do not own guns, but are victims of gun violence on a daily basis.

It's time to become a single issue voter if only for a few election cycles. nt

(6,650 posts)2. I agree, and as I said
in another post:
"Replacing bought-and-paid-for politicians will not only help reduce gun violence in this country, but it just may help to overturn travesties like Citizens United and the whole right-wing fascist war-mongering MIC agenda."
